Laser Coding on to glass

This is an application story about the installation of 2 x Macsa K-1010 Plus Laser systems for Toughglaze (UK) Ltd.

Toughglaze (UK) Ltd is a leading manufacturer of toughened glass in the UK and approached The Needham Group to provide a solution for marking toughened glass with logos and text.

The Customer Requirements

The existing method used of applying transfers was proving time consuming, inaccurate, inconsistent and labour intensive, therefore Toughglaze required several criteria be met for this project:

• Permanent marking
• High quality text and graphics
• Accurate positioning of the mark
• High reliability and low maintenance
• Affordable to purchase and to operate
• Increased production speed and throughput

The Needham Group Proposal

The solution provided by The Needham Group was the Macsa K-Series CO2 Laser with Windows based MARCA software, which enables quick and easy creation and editing of text and logos.

Having produced samples to the customers specification within 24 hours and following customer approval, a demonstration was conducted which enabled Toughglaze experience first hand benefits of the Macsa K-Series Laser system.

During the demonstration, an evaluation of the site was conducted and the correct sensing systems, laser support and safety systems recommended for the application.

Following further specialised samples, including mirror image marking, Toughglaze (UK) Ltd placed an order for 2 x Macsa K-1010 Plus Laser systems.
